Soleca Planedo is a box containing the triptych Lonely Planet, by the artist Susan Kooi. Each publication is an alternative travel book for a place with a long clay tradition, showing the works Kooi made during her trips, their background stories adapted into essays.
I designed two editions, Yamatai Koku is set in Arita, Japan, and Escoural-O-Novo in the Évora region of Portugal. I also designed the box.
I approached the design as a collage, with all available graphic elements like fonts, images, colors, shapes and mainly with the language of the region of each book. Both books were an experimental process mainly in its composition. This free process trying to capture sensations, textures, tastes and smells was quite enriching both from the formal point of view and from the absorption of a culture by graphic means.
The box, the clouds around the world showing the movement of thought as the air blowing from a cold to warm region.
